What a delightful day it will be! Summer is here in Cambridge, casting a warm glow over the city as we welcome an enthusiastic group of students from Hong Kong. The day will be meticulously planned to ensure a rich cultural exchange, filled with engaging activities, vibrant conversations, and delicious food.
12:30 PM - Culinary Preparations Will Begin Our incredible UK Education Garden Team will roll up their sleeves and get busy in the kitchen. The air will soon be filled with tantalizing aromas as they
prepare a traditional Chinese lunch and an afternoon tea. The menu will be thoughtfully curated to
give our guests from Hong Kong a taste of home while also offering something new for Cambridge
University students.
1:15 PM - Arrival of Hong Kong Students
Excitement will be palpable as the coach carrying the Hong Kong students pulls up. The students will disembark, their faces lit up with anticipation. They will be greeted with warm smiles and a refreshing welcome drink to kickstart the afternoon adventures.
1:30 - 2:30 PM - Chinese Lunch and Sharing Session
The garden room will buzz with activity as we sit down for a sumptuous Chinese lunch. Plates filled with delicacies like dumplings, spring rolls, and fried rice will be passed around. But the food will just be the beginning.
This will be a golden opportunity for Cambridge University students and Hong Kong students to mingle. Laughter and stories will flow freely as they share their experiences, aspirations, and insights into their respective cultures. It will be heartening to see friendships begin to blossom
over shared meals.
2:30 - 3:15 PM - Preparations for the Conversation Exchange
After lunch, it will be time to get ready for the next big event — a conversation exchange with local primary school students and their
parents. Our guests from Hong Kong will prepare worksheets and a batch of delightful cupcakes to make the interaction more engaging.
3:15 - 4:30 PM - Conversation Exchange in Eddington Park
With worksheets and cupcakes in hand,we will head to Eddington Park.
The weather will be on our side, offering a picturesque setting for the interaction.
The Hong Kong students will pair up with local primary school students and their parents, each group finding a cozy spot in the park to sit down and chat. The worksheets will serve as Cultural Exchange in Cambridgeicebreakers, sparking conversations about hobbies, school life, and cultural traditions. The cupcakes, of course, will be the perfect sweet treat to enjoy while making new friends. Laughter will echo through the park as they share stories, play games, and even teach each other a few words in their native languages.
In case of rain, the Eddington Community Hall will be our backup plan, but luckily, the weather will hold up beautifully.
Reflecting on the Day
As the day draws to a close, it will be clear that this exchange will have been more than just a series of planned activities. It will have been a meaningful connection between students from different parts of the world, fostering understanding and respect for each other's cultures. The students from Hong Kong may come as strangers, but they will leave with new friends and unforgettable memories.
